SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) baseball team defeated Bethel University 14-0 in seven innings before falling to Huntington University 4-2 to open the Crossroads League Tournament on Thursday, April 30.
SAINT FRANCIS 14, BETHEL 0 - 7 INNINGS
- Weather suspended Thursday's Play-In Game in the third inning between No. 5 seed Saint Francis and No. 8 seed Bethel, forcing the Cougars and Pilots to continue play on Friday.
- Saint Francis blew the game open early with a six-run second inning and never looked back, adding another six-run frame in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
- The Cougars finished with 13 hits and drew six walks. Xavier Nolan went 3-4 at the plate with four RBI. Cole Kintz, AJ Patton and Jack Belschner each had an extra-base hit, combining for three RBI and five runs scored. Ashten Tuttle and Kasen Oribello both drove in two runs.
- The SF pitching staff combined for a three-hit shutout. Jayden Nuber earned the win in relief, following three strong frames from starter Dawson French.
#22 HUNGINTON 4, SAINT FRANCIS 2
- After defeating Bethel, Saint Francis advanced in the tournament to face the No. 2 seed Huntington Foresters.
- The Cougars went toe-to-toe with the Forsters but fell short in a 4-2 contest.
- SF recorded four hits and five walks against HU. Xavier Nolan finished with an RBI, and Oribello drove in the other Cougar run.
- Perry Stow was credited with the loss after striking out three batters and allowing three runs in 3.1 innings on the mound. Bryce Adams tossed 4.2 innings, allowing only one run while striking out five.
Up next, Saint Francis baseball (21-30) will face Spring Arbor University in an elimination game on Friday, May 1 at 11:00 a.m.
