Saint Francis Takes Series Sweep Over Bethel on Senior Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Indiana) completed a four-game series sweep over Bethel University on Monday, April 20, winning the final two games with scores of 12-1 and 8-2.

In between the games, the Saint Francis baseball team honored its senior class with a brief on-field ceremony.

SAINT FRANCIS 12, BETHEL 1 - 7 INNINGS 

  • In game one, Saint Francis exploded early and never looked back, plating three runs in the first and adding five more in the fourth to secure a 12-1 win.
  • The Cougars finished with 10 hits and nine walks in game one. Kasen Oribello went 2-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Jordan Davis added two RBIs and a double, while Cole Kintz and AJ Patton each contributed extra-base hits. The Cougars applied constant pressure on the bases, stealing nine bases, led by Jack Belschner's three. 
  • On the mound, Dawson French delivered a strong outing, going five innings while allowing just one run and striking out a pair of batters to earn the win. Jayden Nuber threw 2.0 innings as the closer, holding the Pilots to one hit and no runs.

SAINT FRANCIS 8, BETHEL 2- 7 INNINGS

  • SF built a steady lead, scoring in four different innings, including a three-run fifth that helped create separation in an 8-2 win.
  • Saint Francis finished with six hits and drew seven walks in game two. Belschner hit 2-2 with an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Xavier Nolan, Ayden Lichtensteiger, David Ousley, Zavier Edgar and Oribello all drove in runs. 
  • Bryce Adams got the start in game two and picked up the win, tossing 3.1 innings with five strikeouts and two hits. Perry Stow earned the save after throwing 3.2 scoreless innings and tallying seven strikeouts.

Up next, Saint Francis baseball (17-28, 15-17) will close out the regular season with a four-game road series at Goshen College on April 23 and April 25.
