Cougars Feast off the Maple Leaves to end the series 4-0

GOSHEN, Ind. -- On Saturday afternoon, The University of Saint Francis Cougars (20-19, 15-11 Crossroads League) took on the Goshen College Maple Leaves (8-28, 4-20 Crossroads League) in a doubleheader matchup winning both games of the series by scores of 27-17 and 7-6.

In the first game of the Saturday series, Cory Wolters took the mound to start for the Cougars. Just like Friday's series against Goshen, the Cougars came out serving heat early. It started with Eli Riley, David Miller, and Nick Parsons all having pairs of 2-run homeruns. Then, Noah Mack followed with an RBI to make it 7-0 in the 2nd inning. Goshen would be quicker to respond this time around scoring off a wild pitch and a double RBI to cut the deficit to 7-3. But, the Cougars pounced back with a Jayden Lepper homerun, a sacrifice groundout, and scoring off a wild pitch to make it 10-3 in the 4th inning.

Goshen would find its groove later on scoring 4 singles, a walk, & a sacrifice fly to make it 10-9. But, the Cougar offense would not shutdown as they contnued to dominate with another David Miller solo homerun, a 2-run single, and 4 more singles to make it 17-9 in the 6th inning. Goshen however, would make a final stand against the Cougars scoring 3 singles, 2 doubles, and getting a walk to tie the series at 17-17 in the 8th inning. But, the GC defense would sputter out even after leading a comeback, which the Cougars took advantage of. The Cougars would score off 5 singles, a walk, an error, a 2-run homerun by Eli Riley, and a 3-run homerun by Jayden Lepper to make it 27-17 in the 9th inning with a game one series victory.

In the second game of the Saturday series, Hunter Frost took the mound to start for the Cougars. Goshen would strike first this time around, hitting a single to open the game making it 1-0. But the Cougar offense who had been dominating Goshen all weekend, struck back fast and furiously. The scoring frenzy began with a sacrifice fly, 4 singles, and a sacrifice groundout to make it 7-1 in the 4th. But, Goshen would be prepared to respond quickly, scoring off a wild pitch, a 2-run single, and scoring off two fielding errors to make it 7-6 in the 5th inning. But, the Cougars defense cleaned up from here and managed to stop a very close Goshen comeback. The Cougars would closeout game two of the Saturday series with a 7-6 victory and secure the weekend series against Goshen winning all 4 games.
