USF Cougs Out-Coug’d by Ohio Cougars of MVNU
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team continued their Crossroads League tenure on the road this evening in Mount Vernon, Ohio to take on the RV MVNU (Ohio) Cougars. The Indiana Cougars dropped in 3 sets to the Ohio Cougars with final scores of 25-14, 25-17, & 25-8.
USF outplayed MVNU at the net, tallying 84 attacks compared to MVNU's 76, but tallied 23 attack errors for a -0.036 hit percentage. In the first set, USF recorded 7 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, and unfortunately had 4 attacking errors. The ultimate demise of the Cougars in set 2 was their attacking errors which led to a 2-0 lead for MVNU. USF tried to rally back in the third set, but their efforts were not enough to defeat MVNU in their back court.
Key performances came from Caroline Jones, Kiana Gomez-Espino, Kate McMullen, & Kendal Frey who all recorded 3 kills a piece to add to the 20 kill total. Jo Delsing & Eliza Madden combined for 14 total assists in 3 sets. Finally, Alexis Gregory led for team digs in the back court adding 10 of her own to the team's 26 total.
USF will return home tomorrow afternoon (September 30th) for another Crossroads League match-up. The Cougars will play host to the Huntington University Foresters for a 4pm first serve in Hutzell Athletic Center. The Cougars are 5-14 overall and 1-7 in CL play. The Foresters enter into the match-up tomorrow 12-7 overall & 3-5 in the Crossroads League.
