Saint Francis Records Second Straight Shutout

LIVONIA, Mich. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team picked up its second straight shutout of the season after defeating Madonna University 2-0 on Wednesday, September 3.

Both teams created scoring opportunities in the first half, with Saint Francis and Madonna combining for a total of eight shots. However, neither team was able to find the net, resulting in a score of 0-0 at halftime.

In the 51st minute, Faith Lewis scored her second goal of the season, unassisted, putting the Cougars ahead 1-0. With just over five minutes remaining in the match, Evelyn Harkenrider added to the lead with another unassisted goal, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of Saint Francis. The Coguars' defense held Madonna to only three shots in the second half, preventing the Crusaders from scoring as Saint Francis secured the shutout road win.

The Cougars took five shots, four of which landed on goal on Wednesday night. LewisHarkenrider, Grace Preston and Madison Meeks each contributed a shot on goal on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Bova picked up her fourth win of the season after making eight saves to keep the Crusaders off the scoreboard. 

Up next, SF women's soccer (4-1) will host Indiana University East at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium on September 6. Match time has been moved to 7:00 p.m.
