Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at St. Francis (Ill.)

JOLIET, Ill. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team faced off against the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a non-conference road match on Wednesday, August 27. 

Saint Francis started strong, taking three shots within the first 15 minutes of the game. With less than a minute remaining in the first half, the Fighting Saints scored a goal, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, SF created more scoring opportunities, outshooting their opponents 9-6. However, the Cougars were unable to equalize, falling short to the Fighting Saints with a final score of 1-0.

Throughout the match, the Cougars took a total of 12 shots, with nine of them on target. Additionally, Saint Francis earned the only corner kick of the night during the second half.

Evelyn Harkenrider and Faith Lewis both led Saint Francis with three shots (two landing on goal) each. Grace HeinHailey Stanforth, Reagan MetelHaylee Heflin, and Kiersten Parker accounted for the other three shots on goal for the Cougars. Rachel Bova recorded five saves in goal for SF.

Up next, Saint Francis women's soccer (2-1) will host Cornerstone University on Saturday, August 30, at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
