FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team blanked Cleary University 4-0 in their home opener at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium on Saturday, August 23.
The Saint Francis offense started strong in Saturday's match, with freshman Reagan Metel scoring a goal within the first five minutes, assisted by Evelyn Harkenrider and Haylee Heflin. Less than 13 minutes later, Cleary committed a foul inside their own penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick for Saint Francis. SF midfielder Grace Hein stepped up for the one-on-one scoring opportunity against the Cleary goalkeeper and successfully converted the penalty, extending Saint Francis' lead to 2-0.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Metel scored again with a shot assisted by Faith Lewis and Hailey Stanforth, increasing SF's lead to 3-0. The fourth goal for Saint Francis was scored when Taylor Keenan set up Sarah Bohanon, who nudged the ball into the net, making the score 4-0.
Saint Francis took 14 total shots, eight of which landed on goal. Cleary was held to just six shots on the night, while Saint Francis led in corner kicks 6-3. Rachel Bova saved all five shots she faced in goal, recording her first clean sheet of the season.
