No. 7 Cougars Defeat No. 23 Warriors 60-50

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 7 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team defeated No. 23 Indiana Tech by a final score of 60-50 in a top-25 road matchup on Saturday, November 15.

The two teams battled back and forth during the first quarter, with Indiana Tech (2-2) managing to take an 11-9 lead going into the second quarter. The Warriors extended their lead to five points, bringing the score to 20-15 with 5:40 left in the half. The Cougars rallied and took a 21-20 lead at the 3:21 mark. Indiana Tech responded with a three-point shot, regaining the lead with just over three minutes remaining in the second quarter. Indiana Tech held off Saint Francis for a 28-23 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Saint Francis scored 19 points while limiting Indiana Tech to just 10, giving them a 42-38 lead. The Warriors tied the game at 44-44 with 7:26 left in the fourth quarter. A made free throw and a pair of made layups gave the Cougars a 52-47 advantage. Saint Francis finished the fourth quarter strong, closing out with an 8-3 run to secure a 60-50 victory, improving their overall record to 6-0 for the season.

Saint Francis finished with a field goal percentage of 41.8% (23-55), scoring 42 points in the paint. The Cougars outrebounded the Warriors 40-32 and forced 13 turnovers by Indiana Tech. Cali Gregory recorded 26 points, seven rebounds, four steals and a block. Renna Schwieterman finished with a team-high 12 rebounds while contributing five points and two assists. Taylor Fordyce added five points and a steal, while Isabella Gizzi had eight points and three rebounds. 

Up next, the Cougars (6-0) will open Crossroads League play on Wednesday, November 19, at Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
