USF falls in Day one of the Florida Classic to Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, Fla. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team traveled to Ave Maria, Florida for the December Classic weekend hosted by Southeastern University. The Cougars fell to Ave Maria College for day one of the Classic with a final score of 65-51.

The Cougars led the Gyrenes in the first quarter 19-14 & in the second, leading at the half 25-22. The Gyrenes came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 21-9 in the 3rd quarter & 22-17 in the fourth, riding momentum through to a win. USF struggled in the second half, shooting 0% from the field in the third quarter, & 50% in the fourth quarter, going 6-for-12 in the field. 

Ally Madden led for the Cougars with 14 points & 7 rebounds. Taylor Fordyce also had her share in scoring with 12 points & 4 rebounds. Isabella Gizzi also chipped in 8 points to the Cougar effort. 

USF is now 8-4 overall and will look to reset for day two of the Classic. The Cougars will play Southeastern University with a 2pm tip-off in Ave Maria, Florida. The Fire are currently 7-4 overall.
