(RV) Softball Falls to No. 20 Marian, Earns No. 2 Seed in Crossroads League Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The (RV) University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team closed out the regular season with a Crossroads League doubleheader at No. 20 Marian University on Saturday, April 26. The Cougars dropped a pair of tightly contested games, falling 2-1 in eight innings in game one before coming up short 12-9 in game two.

#20 MARIAN 2, (RV) SAINT FRANCIS 1 - 8 INNINGS

  • Marian struck first with an RBI single to center field in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Francis answered in the sixth, using an RBI single up the middle to even the score at 1-1.
  • Neither team scored in the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
  • After the Cougars were held scoreless in the top of the eighth, Marian hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.
  • Saint Francis was held to two hits while drawing three walks in game one. Abby Robakowski recorded a double, while Paiton Iliff drove in the Cougars' lone run. Sam Baker and Haylee Schott each added a stolen base.
  • In the circle, Olivia Fuentes threw 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out one. Ellie Sauder took the loss in relief, allowing one hit over 0.2 innings.

#20 MARIAN 12, (RV) SAINT FRANCIS 9

  • Saint Francis jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on an error and two doubles to score five runs in the first inning.
  • The Cougars extended their lead to 6-0 in the second with an RBI single and pushed it to 7-1 with another run in the third.
  • Marian responded with 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 12-7 lead.
  • A two-run home run from Schott cut the deficit to three, but the Cougars were unable to complete the comeback as Marian held on for the 12-9 win.
  • Saint Francis totaled 12 hits and drew four walks in game two. Baker went 4-5 with three runs scored and five stolen bases. Schott recorded a double, a home run, and three RBI, while Macie Dowd added a double and two RBI. Robakowski also drove in two runs.
  • Sauder made the start, allowing seven hits while striking out three over 4.0 innings. Schott and Kennedy Baioni combined for four hits allowed and two strikeouts in relief.

Saint Francis softball closes the regular season at 33-11 overall and 29-7 in Crossroads League play. The Cougars have secured the No. 2 seed in the Crossroads League Tournament and will open postseason play on Wednesday, April 29, at 5:00 p.m. at Westendorf Field.
