FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The (RV) University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team swept Taylor University in a Crossroads League doubleheader on Thursday, April 23 at Westendorf Field. The Cougars rallied for a 7-5 win in game one before earning a 10-2 run-rule victory in game two.
(RV) SAINT FRANCIS 7, TAYLOR 5
- Taylor struck first with two runs in the opening inning.
- The Cougars answered in the second with an RBI double and two RBI singles to take a 3-2 lead.
- The Trojans retook the lead in the third with a three-run home run to make it 5-3.
- With two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Madyson Minnich drew a walk to bring in a run. A wild pitch tied the game before a two-run single from Kortney Surber gave the Cougars a 7-5 lead.
- Saint Francis held Taylor scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.
- The Cougars totaled seven hits and drew six walks in game one. Surber and Abby Robakowski each went 2-3, with Surber leading the team with two RBI. Robakowski added an extra-base hit and a run scored, while Lena Viggiano recorded a double and an RBI. Sam Baker and Minnich also drove in runs.
- In the circle, Haylee Schott earned the win, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out two over 6.0 innings. Ellie Sauder held Taylor hitless in an inning of relief.

- After Taylor opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, Saint Francis answered with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
- The Cougars took the lead in the second, capitalizing on a Taylor error to make it 2-1.
- Saint Francis broke the game open in the third with an RBI double and two RBI singles to extend the lead to 6-1.
- Taylor added a run in the sixth to cut the Cougars' lead to four.
- SF responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double and an RBI single to push the lead to 9-2. Viggiano delivered the walk-off RBI double to left-center to secure the 10-2 run-rule victory.
- The Cougars finished with 13 hits and drew five walks in game two. Robakowski went 4-4 with her 22nd home run of the season and two RBI. Viggiano hit 3-3 with a double and two RBI, while Macie Dowd added two doubles and a team-high three RBI. Surber recorded a triple and an RBI, and Emma Howdeshell added a stolen base.
- In the circle, Sauder got the start and allowed one hit over 3.0 innings. Olivia Fuentes allowed three hits while striking out one over 3.0 innings of relief.
