FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team completed a doubleheader sweep with a 12-4 game two win over Bethel University on Monday, April 20. The Cougars and Pilots began game two on April 13 before inclement weather suspended play after three innings. The game resumed Monday in the top of the fourth with Saint Francis leading 6-2, as the Cougars went on to secure a run-rule victory in six innings.
Bethel capitalized on early errors to score two runs in the top of the first inning. Saint Francis answered with four runs in the bottom half to take a 4-2 lead.
An RBI single and an RBI walk added two more runs for the Cougars in the third, making it 6-2.
Abby Robakowski led off the fourth with a solo home run to extend the lead to 7-2.
After Bethel used a two-run single in the fifth to cut the deficit to three, Saint Francis responded with a four-run sixth inning to secure the run-rule victory and improve to 30-8 on the season.
The Cougars totaled 13 hits and drew 10 walks in game two. Madyson Minnich went 2-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base, while Sam Baker and Robakowski each went 3-4, combining for four RBI and four runs scored. Baker added a triple and two stolen bases, and Robakowski recorded a double and her 20th home run of the season. Macie Dowd also had an extra-base hit and an RBI, while Haylee Schott, Lillian Pierce, and Maddy Brady each drove in a run for SF.
In the circle, Alexa Huth earned the win, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs over 5.0 innings. Kennedy Baioni added an inning of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.
Up next, the Cougars (30-8, 26-4) will host Huntington University for a Crossroads League doubleheader on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Westendorf Field.
