FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team extended its winning streak to 15 games with a doubleheader sweep of Grace College on Saturday, April 11 at Westendorf Field. The Cougars won game one 11-3 in five innings before completing the sweep with an 8-0 run-rule victory in game two.
SAINT FRANCIS 11, GRACE 3
- After Grace plated a run in the top of the first, Saint Francis responded with a big bottom half of the inning, scoring seven runs on an RBI groundout, three home runs, and an RBI single.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 9-1 in the second before adding two more runs in the third on a sacrifice bunt and another home run to make it 11-1.
- Grace brought in a run in the fourth, but Saint Francis held off the Lancers to secure the game one victory.
- The Cougars recorded 13 hits and five walks in game one. Sam Baker went 3-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and two stolen bases, while Macie Dowd hit 2-2 with a home run and three RBI. Abby Robakowski, Haylee Schott, and Lena Viggiano also homered, with Viggiano also adding a double and Joanna Geremesz recording a triple. Robakowski and Viggiano each drove in two runs. Paiton Iliff, Schott, and Kortney Surber added an RBI apiece.
- In the circle, Ellie Sauder earned the win, tossing five innings with five strikeouts while allowing one walk and two earned runs.
SAINT FRANCIS 8, GRACE 0
- Robakowski put Saint Francis on the board in the first with a solo home run to right field for a 1-0 lead.
- In the third inning, Iliff extended the advantage with a three-run home run to left, and Robakowski followed with her third homer of the day to push the lead to 5-0.
- The Cougars added to their lead in the fourth with a pair of RBI singles to make it 8-0.
- Saint Francis kept Grace off the board the rest of the way to secure the game two victory and complete the doubleheader sweep.
- The Cougars totaled seven hits and drew one walk in game two. Baker, Iliff, and Robakowski each went 2-3 at the plate, combining for eight RBI. Robakowski hit her 16th home run of the season, while Iliff added a home run and a stolen base.
- In the circle, freshman Olivia Fuentes tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out three in the win.
Up next, SF softball (25-7, 21-3 CL) will be back in action on Monday, April 13, with a home doubleheader against Bethel University starting at 1:00 p.m.
