Saint Francis Sweeps Goshen, Bolyn Reaches 400 Wins

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team swept Goshen College in a Crossroads League doubleheader on Thursday, April 9, winning game one 4-2 before securing a 10-1 run-rule victory in game two. The sweep marked head coach Ryan Bolyn's 400th career win at Saint Francis and extended the Cougars' winning streak to 13 games.

SAINT FRANCIS 4, GOSHEN 2

  • Saint Francis struck first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Goshen evened the score in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to left.
  • The Cougars responded in the bottom half of the inning. With one out and a runner on second, Abby Robakowski hit a two-run home run to center field to give Saint Francis a 3-1 advantage.
  • Macie Dowd followed in the sixth, leading off the inning with a solo home run to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • The Maple Leafs tried to rally in the seventh, plating one run, but Saint Francis held on to secure the game one victory.
  • The Cougars totaled 10 hits in game one. Sam Baker and Robakowski each went 2-3 at the plate. Baker scored twice and added two stolen bases, while Robakowski finished with a home run and three RBI. Dowd's homer marked her fourth of the season.
  • In the circle, Kennedy Baioni earned the complete-game win, allowing eight hits while striking out one.

SAINT FRANCIS 10, GOSHEN 1 - 5 INNINGS

  • Saint Francis capitalized on Goshen errors and used an RBI single to take an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • The Cougars broke the game open in the second, scoring five runs behind three RBI singles and a fielding error to extend the lead to 8-0.
  • With one out and a runner on first, Dowd pinch hit and launched a two-run home run to center field, pushing the Cougars' advantage to 10-0.
  • Goshen plated a run in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough as Saint Francis secured the run-rule victory.
  • The Cougars totaled nine hits and drew four walks in game two. Bree Miller went 2-3 with two RBI, while Dowd hit her second home run of the day. Robakowski and Madyson Minnich each drove in two runs, and Baker added three stolen bases.
  • In the circle, Alexa Huth earned the win, tossing all five innings while allowing four hits and one run with three strikeouts.

Up next, the Cougars (23-7, 19-3 CL) will host Grace College for two games on Saturday, April 11. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Westendorf Field.
