Saint Francis Extends Win Streak to Nine with Sweep Over Spring Arbor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team earned a Crossroads League doubleheader sweep over Spring Arbor University at Westendorf Field. The SF Cougars took game one 4-2 before securing an 11-2 run-rule victory in game two.

SAINT FRANCIS 4, SPRING ARBOR 2

  • Spring Arbor got on the scoreboard first in Tuesday's opening game, plating a run in the top of the third inning for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Cougars responded in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to center field from Abby Robakowski and an RBI double from Kortney Surber.
  • SAU tied the game in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-2.
  • Saint Francis capitalized on a Spring Arbor error while applying pressure on the basepaths, plating runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead.
  • The Cougars held SAU scoreless the rest of the way to secure the game one victory.
  • Saint Francis recorded six hits and three walks in game one. Surber had a double and a team-high two RBI. Robakowski hit her first home run of the day, while Madyson Minnich added a double and Sam Baker recorded a stolen base.
  • In the circle, Ellie Sauder threw a complete game, striking out three batters while allowing four hits and one earned run.

SAINT FRANCIS 11, SPRING ARBOR 2 - 6 INNINGS

  • The Cougars carried the momentum from game one, as Robakowski hit her second home run of the day and 12th of the season in the bottom of the first inning to give Saint Francis an early 2-0 lead.
  • SAU responded in the second inning with a two-run single to right field to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Saint Francis answered in the bottom of the third with two RBI singles to retake the lead.
  • The Cougars broke the game open in the fourth inning, using RBI singles and capitalizing on errors to extend their lead to 7-2.
  • With runners on second and third and two outs, Haylee Schott delivered a three-run home run to left field to seal the 11-2 run-rule victory and complete the doubleheader sweep.
  • Saint Francis finished with 13 hits and four walks in game two. Joanna Geremesz, Baker and Minnich each went 2-3 at the plate, combining for three RBI and four runs scored. Baker also recorded four stolen bases. Robakowski added a double, a home run and three RBI, while Schott finished with a home run and three RBI. Paiton Iliff also drove in a run and had a stolen base.
  • In the circle, Olivia Fuentes threw a complete game, striking out two batters while allowing four hits and two runs.

Up next, Saint Francis softball (19-7, 15-3 CL) will host No. 11 Marian University for a league doubleheader on Wednesday, April 8. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne.
