Saint Francis Picks Up Two Wins Against Grace

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars swept the Grace College Lancers in Crossroads League action on Wednesday, March 25. 

SAINT FRANCIS 7, GRACE 3

  • The Lancers struck first in game one, driving in two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Saint Francis responded in the top of the second inning, using singles from Bree Miller and Kortney Surber to bring in three runs and take a 3-2 lead.
  • Grace quickly tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a home run.
  • The Cougars regained the lead in the top of the fourth, using a single and an error to score two runs and make it a 5-3 game.
  • Saint Francis added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 7-3.
  • The Cougars held the Lancers scoreless over the final two innings to secure the four-run victory.
  • Saint Francis recorded 10 hits and two walks in game one. Surber went 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases. Paiton Iliff hit 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, while Abby Robakowski and Miller each drove in a run.
  • In the circle, Alexa Huth threw a complete game, striking out three batters while allowing six hits to earn the win.

SAINT FRANCIS 10, GRACE 5

  • Saint Francis got on the scoreboard first in game two with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Cougars added three more runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0.
  • A two-run home run from Joanna Geremesz pushed Saint Francis's advantage to 7-0 in the third inning.
  • An RBI double from Robakowski made it an eight-run game in the top of the fourth, and she followed with a two-run home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 10-0.
  • Grace tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth, plating five runs, but the Cougars held on to secure the 10-5 win and complete the doubleheader sweep.
  • Saint Francis recorded 13 hits and five walks in game two. Robakowski went 3-3 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, a stolen base and three RBI. Geremesz finished 2-4 with her first collegiate home run and two RBI. Sam Baker added a triple, two stolen bases and an RBI, while Lillian Pierce also had an extra-base hit and a stolen base. Iliff, Macie Dowd, Madyson Minnich and Emma Howdeshell each drove in a run.
  • In the circle, Olivia Fuentes earned the win after throwing 4.0 innings, striking out two and allowing seven hits. Ellie Sauder held the Lancers to three hits and no runs while striking out two in 3.0 innings of relief.

Up next, the Cougars (13-7, 9-3 CL) will continue league play with a doubleheader at Bethel University on March 27.
