Saint Francis Defeats Mount Marty 6-3 to Close Florida Trip
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars defeated the Mount Marty University Lancers 6-3 to wrap up The Space Coast Spring Games on Saturday, March 7.
The Cougars started Saturday morning's game strong, driving in a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early lead. A two-out double to center field in the top of the third inning brought home two more runs for Saint Francis, extending its lead to 4-0.
Mount Marty responded in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating three runs to cut the Cougars' lead to 4-3.
Abby Robakowski hit a home run over the center field fence to give Saint Francis a 5-3 advantage in the sixth inning. Kortney Surber followed with her second double of the morning to left field to score another run for SF and make it a 6-3 game.
Saint Francis held Mount Marty off the board the rest of the way to secure the win, improving its record to 4-4 on the season.
The Cougars recorded eight hits and seven walks. Surber went 3-4 at the plate with three doubles and three RBI. Robakowski finished 2-3 with a home run and a walk. Sam Baker added a double, while Madyson Minnich and Haylee Schott each recorded an RBI.
In the circle, Ellie Sauder, Olivia Fuentes and Alexa Huth combined for five strikeouts while allowing six hits.Sauder was credited with the win after throwing 4.0 innings as the starter.
Up next, the Cougars (4-4) will open Crossroads League play with a doubleheader at Goshen College on March 10. Game one is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m., with game two to follow.
