FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Cougars Softball opened their season with a double header against Fort Wayne foe, Indiana Tech.
Game 1
Cougars fall to Indiana Tech 7-6 in 10 innings when Trouba singled to score the winning run. USF Lost despite out hitting Tech 14-10. Dani Karr, Sam Baker, Macie Dowd and Ashlynn Allman each collected 2 hits a piece for the Cougars.
Indiana Tech tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd thanks to a triple by Fox, and a single by Sullivan. An error gave Indiana Tech the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th. USF then took the lead back in the top of the 6th 5-4 thanks to doubles by Allison Pavlick and Sam Baker. Sullivan (Tech) singled in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game and push extra innings.
In the top of the 9th Macie Dowd hit her first homerun of the season helping the Cougs take a 6-5 lead only to have once again Sullivan tie it back up in the bottom of the 9th. USF Strands Bree Miller in the top of the 10th with a 1 out Double. Indiana Tech's lead off walk in the bottom of the 10th set up the the winning run with a single by Schnick and a walk off single by Trouba.
Game 2
Another Walk off puts the Cougars at 0-2 to start the year on Sunday when Trouba singled in the winning run again.
Cougars fell back 4 runs in the 4th inning only to tie the game back up in the top of the 6th inning 7-7 by Macie Dowds triple down the right field line. That inning was started by a two out rally by right fielder Madisyn Miller, Madison Minnich and Sam Baker loading the bases. Lena Viggiano Singles to push a run and then the base clearing triple by Macie Dowd. The Cougars go 1,2,3 in the top of the 7th to give Tech another chance to walk it off. Bottom of the 7th a Walk allowed for a stolen base and a single by Trouba to be the hero again in game 2.
The Cougs will be back in action this Saturday, March 2nd playing the Viterbo University V-Hawks.
